Hello friends,
Welcome back to another blog post of my observations at the Smart Bilingual Primary School.
Just like in previous days, I observed two superb classes, full of little lovely, and cute students today. The first class was 6A, and the lesson was English Language. Since today was the first day of school after winter break, the teacher started the class by asking them questions about their vacation. It is always important to ask questions and get answers from your students, it helps you understand your pupils more and let deal with them easier. The aims of the class were Present Perfect and Past Simple, and to develop speaking skills using the mentioned tenses. The teacher tried different activities and techniques to achieve the goals, one of them was asking them to draw a map and answer some relevant questions to the vacation topic that the students get from an online tool that asks questions randomly. The teacher was supportive and helped the students see their mistakes and corrected them. The whole class was engaged and tried to share their experiences. Moreover, I was able to notice scaffolding and differentiations from the teacher by asking different questions and explanations, also different ways of providing positive feedback.
The second class was Phonetics class, and they were third graders. The teacher’s aim was to teach them the sounds that the letters “OO” can make. She is always starting by counting to ten to get the students ready and it is always working for her! She started to explain the class’s aims and goals very clearly and it helped the students know what should they follow and achieve by the end of the class. She taught them the sounds via various techniques and activities which I see it interesting since phonetics is not always a fun class, so the teacher is supposed to make it fun and smooth as much as he can. Matching words that have the letters “OO” to the pictures was one of the activities, it helped the students read, listen, and see the words, and in the end, they will not end up forgetting the words easily. Overall, the class was great and delivered well due to providing support and having scaffolding and differentiations based on the students’ knowledge.
Thanks for reading 🙂
