Good afternoon folks! I started my observation formally today at Smart School Bilingual Primary School in Warsaw. Today, I observed a few classes, and below is my reflection on them.
The first class was English language and there were 12 students. The class’s subject was journalism and how to write news or a headline. The teacher started the class by greeting the students and getting them ready for the lesson, also she reviewed her previous class. She used the whiteboard to engage the students by asking them questions and getting their attention. The teacher then explained the aims and goals of the lesson which is really necessary for students and it helps them operate better toward the goals of the class.
She made an effort to get the students’ attention by asking thought-provoking questions and triggering their minds. The teacher utilized visual aids, such as images and diagrams, to help the students understand the topic better. Additionally, she attempted to teach new vocabulary to the students, which was an effective way to challenge them and expand their language skills.
The teacher utilized group work as an activity and walked around the students, working with them and correcting them when necessary. She used scaffolding and differentiation to cater to the varying needs and abilities of the students. The teacher’s effective teaching methods and her ability to engage the students with her enthusiasm made the class an enjoyable and productive learning experience.
The teacher’s relationship with the students was amazing, making them feel like friends. Her body language and facial gesture skills were exceptional and made the class more understandable and engaging for the students. Her enthusiasm and passion for teaching were evident and created a positive atmosphere in the class. The students could easily connect with the teacher, which helped them feel comfortable and willing to participate. The teacher’s effective use of body language, facial gestures, and her warm relationship with the students made the class an enjoyable and memorable learning experience
The second class was about English Phonetics. The teacher started the class with greetings and a review of the previous lesson by asking the students relevant questions. She then introduced the class and clearly stated the aims and goals of the lesson. The teacher made a conscious effort to engage all students in the lesson, making sure that everyone was participating and understanding the material.
Throughout the class, the teacher evaluated the process by checking the students’ knowledge and understanding of the concepts being taught. The teacher then led a group activity, where the students were tasked with writing a story using a set of given words. Before starting the activity, the teacher provided clear instructions and explained the objectives of the exercise.
During the group activity, the teacher walked around and cooperated with the students, providing help and guidance as needed. The teacher then collected and assessed the students’ stories, providing feedback and encouraging further development of their writing skills.
Overall, the teacher demonstrated a commitment to student engagement and understanding, using a variety of teaching methods to enhance the learning experience. The use of group work and hands-on activities allowed the students to apply the concepts they learned, making the class a dynamic and interactive learning experience.
The third observed class was about geography, specifically focusing on the foods of different countries and their tastes. The teacher started the class by reviewing the previous lesson using pictures and questions to get the students engaged and ready to learn.
Throughout the class, it was clear that the teacher utilized scaffolding and differentiation to cater to the varying needs and abilities of the students. The teacher created a comfortable and relaxed environment for the students by bringing in some sweets for them to try, which added a fun and interactive element to the lesson.
The teacher’s use of body language and facial gestures was incredible and helped to bring the lesson to life. Her ability to convey the information in an engaging and interactive way made the class an enjoyable and memorable experience for the students. The teacher’s passion for the subject and her commitment to student engagement and understanding made the class a success.
Unfortunately, I was only able to observe a portion of the class due to the need to catch the bus, as it only comes once an hour. If I had been able to stay for the entire class, I’m sure it would have been a very enriching experience given the teacher’s excellent teaching skills and the engaging nature of the lesson. Despite the limited time, I was still able to see the teacher’s passion for the subject, her commitment to student engagement, and her ability to create a relaxed and interactive learning environment.
That was all!
Thanks for reading 🙂
