Good evening folks!
Today, I went to the school again for my observation and observed some lovely classes. The first two classes I observed were 7A, and the lesson was the English Language. It was the morning class and I expect you to understand that students might be drowsy and not fully ready for the class! The teacher started counting from zero to ten to let the students know they should get prepared by the number ten. I am into that technique, and I see it as very fruitful from time to time, not only for getting students ready but also for putting them back on the road when you, as a teacher, get lost during an activity or a class segment. Following that, she asked them to write the date, topic, and lesson goals. It is quite handy if you let your students know about the aims and goals of the lesson, it helps your students go with your flow. Since the class was the English language, the covered topic was Reported Speech. She used various techniques to conduct the lesson. Not to forget, the goal was to review the topic and give them a boost. She let the students work individually or in pairs which makes the process faster and smoother. Sharing answers among students is a lovely technique since a very good number of pupils are learning from their peers better than their teachers. Moreover, I could notice scaffolding and differentiation which is really important when you want to deliver the class’s idea up to %85. The class got finished with a grammar quiz, I am about to be a little bit skeptical here since I could not notice in advance instructions for the quiz, and I cannot blame the teacher here since students and teachers at SBPS know each other very well. Before letting the students start, she made the deadline for the quiz clear and finished the quiz by sharing the correct answers with them and correcting the wrong ones.
The third class I observed was first graders and the lesson was English again! As you already know, kids love to play and love those teachers the most that they play with them! It does not matter what game or activity you are going to play, they are about to love it. The teacher took the students outside the class for a warm-up activity and they did Simon Says game. The class was a listening class and the teacher used very well-prepared sounds and clips to handle the lesson. She walked around the class to coop with them and help them. What I really loved about that class was the simplicity of the class, I could see that the teacher is well aware of their age and level. First graders are little, cute, and lovely students, forcing them is not a good option and will not make advantageous.
